Agile
Business Consultants was contracted, by a major Oil and Gas Exploration
Company, to deliver a teambuilding workshop as a ‘kick off’
event for a major drilling project planned to cost in excess of
$100 million.
ABC’s remit included the creation of an environment that
encouraged communication, trust and support and to foster a belief
in team working by strengthening individual energy and commitment
to the team. We planned to create an event that was stimulating,
innovative, relevant and fun whilst at the same time delivered practical
strategies to help individuals transfer their learning back into
the workplace to ensure that the benefits of the event were not
forgotten as soon as the workshop was over.
Our client’s objectives for the workshop were:
- To create a common understanding of project amongst a large
multi-disciplinary team
- To enable team members to understand each others strengths and
weaknesses
- To introduce ‘Technical Limit’ philosophy as a tool
to be used throughout the project
- To reinforce the team’s commitment to health & safety
and to gain a commitment to excellence in delivering quality outcomes
at every level during the project
- To encourage the project team to think of innovative ways to
improve things – even if this meant challenging the standard
Company views
In order to deliver the desired outcomes, ABC used our standard
3 phase approach:
|
Stage 1 - Preparation
- In depth discussion with the client to develop an understanding
of the desired outcomes; preparation of a proposal to meet these
with further discussion and clarification.
Stage 2 – The Event.
- Event Delivery. The Agenda included a number of team and individual
activities as well as a simple personality profiling exercise and
the development of specific actions for follow-up. In addition a
team charter was developed and agreed to.
Stage 3 – Post – Event Activity
- Preparation of workshop report capturing all key outputs and flow
of the workshop. The report, supplied in hard copy as well as on
CD-ROM included photographs / action plans and a description of
all workshop activities involved in the event. In line with ABC
policy this report was delivered within 48 hours of the event
- Follow-up meeting with the Client Project Manager to deliver the
report and to assist in follow-up and review of any actions.
- Offering further assistance for subsequent event facilitation
throughout the project’s life cycle if required.
"I found the teambuilding workshop to be well planned,
pitched at the correct level, well executed, informative and enjoyable".
